AI Video Prompt for Car Ads: 12 Cinematic Shot Prompts

An AI video prompt for car footage has to do what a car commercial crew does: describe one car the same way in every shot, pick a real camera rig, and make the wheels, spray and reflections move the way they would on a road. Write a short continuity line for the car, then one shot prompt per beat with the camera move and the motion spelled out. The 12 prompts below cover the car description, the classic shots, weather and light, and fixes for the failures car clips are known for.

The main prompt is the car video prompt for cinematic commercial shots. It builds the continuity block, the shot prompts, a physics check and an edit order in one pass.

Pick the tool before you write

Clip length and aspect ratio change how much a shot prompt can hold, so start from your tool's limits. Checked on the vendors' pages on October 29, 2026:

  • Runway Gen-4.5 offers text to video and image to video. Text to video clips run 2 to 10 seconds at 16:9 and 720p. Runway's guide says text prompts should describe both the visuals and the motion, while image to video prompts should focus on motion because the image already sets the look.
  • Seedance 2.5 from ByteDance generates clips up to 30 seconds with audio and video made together, and accepts reference images, videos and audio clips. It is available through Jimeng AI and through BytePlus as Dreamina Seedance 2.5.

For a 30-second spot, that means three or four 10-second shots in Runway Gen-4.5, or a single multi-shot prompt in Seedance 2.5 with a reference image of the car.

Describe the car once

1. Continuity line

Write one sentence describing this car that I can paste at the start of every shot: [body style, paint color and finish, wheels, lights]. Add "no badges, no logos, blank plates".

2. Unbadged design

I need a car that does not look like any real brand or model. Describe a [body style] with [color] using shape words only, such as roofline, light shape and wheel style, and avoid any wording that points at a real maker.

3. Reference image brief

Write an image prompt for a single still of this car: [continuity line], in [location and light], front three-quarter view, to use as the reference frame for image to video.

Write the classic car shots

4. Rolling shot

[Continuity line] Write a [length]-second rolling shot from a tracking vehicle beside the car on [road], camera at door height, matching speed, background streaking, wheels turning at road speed.

5. Low pass-by

[Continuity line] Write a pass-by from a locked-off low camera at the road edge: the car enters frame [left or right], passes close to the lens, and exits, with spray and reflections described.

6. Drone follow

[Continuity line] Write a drone shot that starts wide over [landscape], finds the car on the road, and settles behind it through a bend. Keep the car small in frame for the first half.

7. Hero front three-quarter

[Continuity line] Write the hero shot: low camera ahead of the car, slowly pulling away, front three-quarter view, the car leaning gently into a curve with headlights on.

Add weather and light

8. Wet road after rain

Add wet-road details to this shot prompt: [shot]. Include reflections on the asphalt, beads on the paint, spray only behind the tires, and mist, without turning it into heavy rain.

9. Night and city light

Rewrite this shot for night in [city setting]: [shot]. Describe how streetlights and signs slide across the paint and how the headlight beams fall on the road.

Fix what goes wrong

10. Warped or frozen wheels

In my clip the wheels [stop, warp or spin backward]. Rewrite this prompt: [shot] so the wheels read as turning at road speed, and suggest a framing that hides them if it still fails.

11. Morphing body or lane drift

The car's shape changes mid-shot or it drifts off the road. Rewrite this prompt: [shot] with a shorter camera move, slower speed words, and a line that keeps the car's shape and lane fixed.

12. Spot plan and edit order

Plan a [length]-second spot for [purpose] using [tool] with [clip length] clips. Give me the shot order, the trim length of each clip, where the end card goes, and where engine sound and music come in.

Worked example

A small crew filmed a silver unbadged SUV in the desert at sunset, with an operator on a handheld gimbal and a monitor on a stand for the director. The real footage covered the close shots, but the crew had no drone, so they wanted one AI wide shot of the SUV raising dust across the valley. They pulled a still frame from the footage, wrote a continuity line with prompt 1, and used prompt 6 rewritten for image to video in Runway Gen-4.5, so the prompt described only motion: the camera rising and pulling back, the SUV crossing the frame, the dust trail drifting away from the low sun.

The first try warped the rear wheels, so prompt 10 added "wheels turning steadily, partly hidden by dust" and pushed the camera wider. Prompt 12 then placed the AI wide shot second in the cut, between two real gimbal shots, so the color and light matched on both sides.

Variations

  • One long take: write a single 30-second multi-shot prompt for Seedance 2.5 and attach a reference image of the car so it stays the same across cuts.
  • Vertical social cut: reframe each shot for 9:16 with image to video, and keep the car in the center third of the frame.
  • Dealer listing clip: describe the real car on the lot and let the video show only features the car has.

Practical tips

  • Paste the same continuity line into every shot. Changing one word, like "emerald" for "dark green", is enough to change the car.
  • Generate the hero shot first. It sets the color and light that every other shot has to match.
  • Keep real brands, badges and readable plates out of prompts unless you hold the rights.
  • If you sell the car, the FTC Act's ban on deceptive advertising applies to video too, so AI shots must not show features, colors or trims the real car does not have.
