Claude Prompts for SEO: 12 Prompts for Audits and Content

Claude prompts for SEO are most useful when you give Claude your own data: a Google Search Console export, your page list, and the page you want to improve. Claude then finds queries where you are close to page one, spots pages competing for the same query, and drafts titles, sections, and internal links that you check before publishing. Below are 12 copy-paste prompts grouped by SEO task, plus a flagship prompt that turns one Search Console export into a ranked refresh plan.

Keep two limits in mind. Claude only sees what you paste or upload, so it cannot know your rankings, traffic, or competitors unless you give it the numbers; check every figure against Search Console. And there are no fixed character rules for titles or meta descriptions: Google truncates by pixel width and often rewrites titles and snippets, so write for the reader and put the query near the front.

Prompts for Search Console data

1. Recompute and sort

Here is my Search Console export for [date range]: [paste rows with page, query, clicks, impressions, position]. Recompute CTR as clicks divided by impressions, sort by impressions, and flag any row that looks inconsistent.

2. Striking-distance queries

From these rows: [paste], list queries with an average position of roughly 8 to 20 and real impressions. For each, name the page that ranks and what the page is missing for that query, based on this page summary: [summary].

3. Pages competing for one query

Find every query in [paste] where two or more of my pages appear. For each, recommend one main page and say what to change on the other (shorten, link, or merge) without deleting anything.

Prompts for on-page edits

4. Titles and meta from a query

Write three title options and two meta descriptions for [URL] that front-load the query "[query]" and match this page: [summary]. Voice: [brand voice]. Avoid [words to avoid].

5. Answer-first section

Write an H2 and a two-sentence direct answer to "[question]" for [page], then three short supporting steps. Use only these facts: [facts]. Mark anything you are unsure of.

6. Refresh an old post

Here is my post from [year]: [paste]. List what is outdated, what is missing for the queries [queries], and the sections to add or cut, in order of effort. Do not rewrite the whole post.

Prompts for site structure and links

7. Internal links from a page list

Here is my page list with URLs and topics: [paste]. For [target page], suggest five internal links from other pages, each with the source page, the sentence where it fits, and descriptive anchor text.

8. Topic cluster map

Group these existing pages: [paste] into topic clusters with one pillar page each. Show gaps where a cluster needs a supporting page, using only the queries in [paste rows].

9. FAQ schema from a draft

From this page draft: [paste], write FAQPage JSON-LD using only questions and answers that appear on the page, word for word. Skip it if the page has no visible FAQ section.

Prompts for content and Claude Projects

10. Content brief from real queries

Write a content brief for a new page on [topic] using only these Search Console queries: [paste]. Include the main question, H2 outline, facts I need to supply, and internal links from [page list].

11. Project instructions for SEO work

Write Claude Project instructions for my SEO work on [site]: voice [voice], words to avoid [list], always recompute CTR, never invent search volumes or rankings, and ask for the export if it is missing.

12. Monthly change log

Here are the edits I made this month with dates: [list]. Make a change log table and, for each page, the 28-day before and after windows to compare in Search Console.

Build one refresh plan from start to finish

The Claude SEO Prompt: Search Console Export to Refresh Plan combines prompts 1 to 4, 7, and 12. You paste the export, the date range, your page inventory, the site goal, your editing hours, and your brand voice. It returns a CTR check, striking-distance queries, pages competing for one query, a ranked shortlist of three pages, titles, metas, new sections and links for each, a leave-alone list, and a measurement plan. The example is a home baking blog where a starter guide sits at position 9.4 for "sourdough starter not rising" and two pages split the query "sourdough discard crackers".

To reuse the setup, create a Claude Project, add your export and page list to the project knowledge, and paste the rules from prompt 11 into the project instructions. Projects are available on free Claude accounts, with a limit of five projects on the free plan.
