ChatGPT Prompts for SEO Optimization: 12 On-Page Prompts
12 ChatGPT prompts for SEO optimization: search intent checks, title tags, meta descriptions, headings, content gaps, internal links, schema, and refresh plans.

ChatGPT prompts for SEO optimization are most useful on pages you already have: you paste the current page and your real query data, and the model finds intent mismatches, rewrites titles and headings, spots content gaps, and suggests internal links. ChatGPT cannot see your rankings or crawl your site, so the quality depends on what you paste from Search Console and your own look at the results page. Below are 12 copy-paste on-page prompts, plus a flagship prompt that turns one page into a full rewrite plan.
Replace every [bracket] with real data. Ask the model never to invent search volume or traffic, and check every change against the live page.
Prompts for search intent
1. Intent check
Here is my page: [page text]. Here is the query I want it to rank for: [query]. Explain what the searcher wants, whether my page gives it to them, and what is missing.
2. Results page summary
These are the headings from the top results for [query]: [headings]. Summarize what every result covers, what only some cover, and one angle none of them cover.
3. Query to page match
Here are queries from Search Console for my site with impressions and clicks: [table]. Group them by intent and say which existing page each group should belong to: [page list].
Prompts for titles, metas, and headings
4. Title tag options
Write five title tags for this page: [summary] targeting [query]. Keep each short enough to show in full on a phone (about 50 to 60 characters is a common guide; Google has no fixed limit and cuts titles to fit the screen), put the main phrase near the front, and show the character count.
5. Meta description options
Write three meta descriptions of 140 to 160 characters for [page] that say what the reader gets. Make each one match the page, because Google often builds the snippet from page text instead. No keyword stuffing. Show the character count for each.
6. Heading outline
Rewrite the headings of this page: [current headings] into one H1 and a clear H2 and H3 outline that answers [query] in a logical order for [audience].
Prompts for content quality
7. Content gap table
Compare my page: [page text] with these competitor notes: [notes]. List the topics I miss, why each matters to the reader, and where each should go on my page.
8. Answer-first intro
Write a 2 to 3 sentence intro for [page] that answers [query] directly in the first sentence, in plain words, so it can be quoted as a short answer.
9. FAQ from real questions
Turn these real customer or search questions: [questions] into an FAQ section for [page], with short answers based only on [facts].
Prompts for links, schema, and refreshes
10. Internal links
Here is a new page: [text] and a list of my other pages with URLs: [list]. Suggest internal links with anchor text and the exact sentence where each fits, in both directions.
11. Schema markup draft
Write JSON-LD for this [Article, Product, or FAQPage] using only these facts: [facts]. Leave out any property I did not give you, and tell me which ones to add.
12. Content refresh plan
This page lost clicks over [period]: [page text and query data]. Suggest what to update, what to remove as outdated, and what to add, in order of likely impact.
Optimize one page end to end in one prompt
The On-Page SEO Optimization Prompt: Page Audit to Rewrite Plan combines prompts 1, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 10. Paste the current page, your query data, notes on the top results, related pages, your goal, and any wording limits. It returns an intent check, title and meta options with counts, a heading outline, a content gap table, a new intro, internal links, and a prioritized change list. The example rebuilds a bakery's sourdough starter page.

Tips for SEO optimization with ChatGPT
- Paste real Search Console data. The model has no access to your rankings.
- Google writes title links and snippets itself. It usually uses your title tag and meta description, but it may show your H1 or other page text instead, especially when the title is vague, outdated, or does not match the page. Keep the title, H1, and intro in agreement.
- Look at the results page yourself and paste what you see.
- Change one page at a time and note the date so you can compare later.
- Write for the reader first. Repeating a phrase does not fix a weak answer.
