ChatGPT Prompts for Training and Development: 12 Plans
12 ChatGPT prompts for training and development: run a needs analysis, write objectives, plan a timed session, build practice, and measure on-the-job change.

ChatGPT prompts for training and development help you turn team skill gaps into sessions people can practice in, not slide decks they sit through. Start from observed behaviors, write clear objectives, then build practice around real job situations and a plan to use the skill back at work. The 12 prompts below follow that path from needs analysis to evaluation.
Find the real gap
1. Training needs analysis questions
I lead L&D for [team and role]. Write 10 questions for supervisors and 6 for team members that find which skills are missing at team level, without asking about named individuals.
2. Is it a training problem?
Here is the issue: [observed problem]. Sort the likely causes into skill, knowledge, tools, process, or motivation, and tell me which ones training can fix and which need a different fix.
3. Gap to learning objective
Turn these team-level skill gaps into learning objectives with an action verb, a condition, and a standard: [skill gaps]. One objective per gap.
Design the session
4. Timed agenda
Session: [length, live or virtual, group size]. Objectives: [objectives]. Build a timed agenda with demo, guided practice, independent practice, and debrief. At least half the time should be practice.
5. Practice scenario writer
Role context: [role, tools, typical day]. Write 3 realistic practice scenarios per objective in [objectives], each with the setup, what good looks like, and one twist.
6. Facilitator guide
For this agenda: [agenda], write facilitator notes with an opening line for each block, mistakes to watch for, and 2 debrief questions.
7. Plain language pass
Some learners work in a second language. Rewrite these handouts in short, plain sentences and keep every technical term the team uses: [handout text].
Check learning
8. Knowledge check
Write 5 questions tied to [objectives], with answers, that test what learners will do on the job, not trivia.
9. Practice rubric
Write a 3-level rubric (not yet, getting there, ready) for this practice task: [task]. Describe what each level looks like in observable behavior.
Make it stick and measure it
10. 30-day transfer plan
After the session on [topic], plan 30 days of on-the-job reminders, a short supervisor observation checklist, and one refresher touchpoint for [team].
11. Evaluation plan
Business outcome: [outcome and how it is measured]. Write an evaluation plan for reaction, learning, and on-the-job behavior. Mark any missing baseline as not measured yet.
12. Sign-off list
Review this training plan: [plan]. List every part that touches policy, legal, safety, or compliance content and who should review it before delivery.
Build the full session with one prompt
The flagship Training and Development Prompt: Skills to Session Plan writes the objective map, timed agenda, scenarios, facilitator notes, knowledge check, rubric, transfer plan, evaluation, and sign-off list together. Its example plans a 90-minute session for new shift leads at a grocery distribution center on huddles, handoff logs, and coaching new pickers.
A note for HR teams: these prompts support training design, not employment advice. Keep training data separate from pay, discipline, or other employment decisions, and have HR, legal, or safety staff review any policy content.
