How to Write Facebook Group Rules and a Welcome Post

Group rules fail when they invent a community that does not exist yet. The model writes 12,000 members, a celebrity moderator, and a weekly AMA you never scheduled. You pin it. New members ask when the AMA is. There is no AMA. The job is rules and a welcome post from the facts you have: purpose, allowed topics, banned behavior, and a CTA you named, with no invented counts.

The matching generator is the Facebook Group Rules and Welcome Post prompt. Browse related cards in the PromptDig library (Browse more prompts). When a filled pin survives a facts check, share the version you actually use (Share a prompt).

Purpose first. Member count never, unless you typed it.

Channel is a Facebook Group, public or private as you stated. Goal is fewer moderation fights, not viral growth. Facts: group name, purpose, who it is for, topics allowed, topics not allowed, promo rules, and any existing rule text. CTA is how to introduce yourself, or how to read the files, as given. Voice is firm and plain. Banned claims: biggest group, 10k members, guaranteed replies, celebrity admins. Assets: current about text, screenshots of problem posts if you pasted them.

If you did not type a member count, the welcome post must not include one. If you did not name a meeting cadence, do not invent weekly. If you did not name a code of conduct URL, do not mint one.

Rules should be observable. "Be kind" is vague. "No insults, no slurs, no call-outs of named members" is observable. "No spam" needs a definition: unsolicited links, the same link twice, selling without approval, as you specified. If you did not specify promo rules, list promo as a gap instead of a vague no spam.

Welcome post that does not over-promise

The welcome post restates purpose, points to the rules, and uses the CTA you gave. It does not promise that admins answer in an hour. It does not promise a job board unless Facts has a job board. It does not promise a discount code.

Pinned comment: a short restatement of the single most broken rule, or the intro prompt, as you asked. Do not add a second CTA. Do not add a survey link that is not in Assets.

If the group is for patients, parents, tenants, or employees, add not-advice. This is not medical, legal, or HR advice. De-identify any people named in the problem-post screenshots you pasted.

Moderation consequences: only the ladder you named (warn, mute, remove, ban). Do not invent a three-strikes policy. Do not invent a public shame thread. If you have no ladder yet, the generator should list it as an open question.

Compliance, gaps, and a pin you can actually enforce

Compliance: quote banned-word hits. Cut guaranteed, family, safe space if you did not define what you will enforce. A "safe space" claim you cannot staff is a false claim.

Gaps: missing whether the group is public, missing age rule, missing whether screenshots of chats are allowed, missing whether recruiters may post, missing file-tab usage, missing language. Print those. Do not fill them with industry defaults.

If Facts mention a Friday deadline to publish rules, that is a process date, not a member milestone. Do not write "launching to 1,000 members Friday."

Watch Facebook-specific mechanics. Only mention features you named: Files, Announcements, chatrooms, paid groups. If you did not name a feature, do not require members to use it. Version-lock nothing you did not type. Facebook labels change. Write the label you see, or unknown.

A worked pass: new group, no member count

Say Facts has a purpose (practitioners sharing process notes), three allowed topics, a Friday go-live, and budget not approved for ads. No customer quotes. The rules can list the three topics and a promo-off default if you said no promo. The welcome post can ask for an intro if that is the CTA. It cannot claim 500 members or a partner program.

If later you add a promo window on Tuesdays, paste that and rerun. Do not keep an invented AMA from the first run.

Secondary assets: a comment for when someone posts a sales link, using only the rule text. Not a pile-on. Not a fake "we have removed 200 spammers" stat.

Fill the card, then run

Paste purpose, allowed topics, and the CTA. Leave member counts blank if you do not want them used.

Account / channel: [Channel]
Goal: [Goal]
Facts: [Facts]
CTA: [CTA]
Voice: [Voice]
Banned claims: [Banned]
Assets: [Assets]

Rules are a contract you will enforce at 11pm. When a run keeps the member count off the pin because you never typed one, share that filled card.
