How to Turn Discovery Notes into a MEDDPICC Scorecard

MEDDPICC generators love a complete scorecard. They invent an economic buyer, a paper process, a champion who "will go to bat," and a metric that was never said on the call. Your forecast then looks healthier than the notes. The job is a scorecard that quotes the call, marks unknown, and refuses to name a buyer who was not in the room.
The matching generator is the Discovery Call Notes to MEDDPICC Scorecard prompt. Browse related cards in the PromptDig library (Browse more prompts). When a filled run survives, share the version you actually use (Share a prompt).
Quote the call before you score a letter
Paste the notes, attendees, and any approved commercial numbers you already have (current contract, seats). Context is the account and the product under discussion. Do not paste a full recording transcript with customer PII if you can help it. Roles beat emails.
The source map is a bullet per MEDDPICC element with a quote fragment or "not in notes." Metrics: only numbers from Inputs. A "maybe 200k" from a manager who left at :25 is not Metrics. It is a quote under Metrics (the M), labeled unverified.
Status of the deal is not a close date you invented. If Notes have no date, the scorecard has no date.
Unknown is a valid score. Invented buyers are not.
Score each element as Strong, Weak, or Unknown, with the quote. Do not invent:
- Economic buyer name or title
- Paper process (security review, legal, procurement sequence)
- Champion vs coach vs detractor labels for people who only asked a question
- Decision criteria you "know they always use"
- Implicate pain as quantified ROI
- Competition named by you, not by them
- Compelling event (fiscal year end, migration date) unless spoken
If the notes say "budget not approved" and "deadline Friday," those two facts belong on the card. They do not become a compelling event plus a signed budget. Friday may be their internal recap, not legal close.
De-identify. Strip personal emails and phone numbers. This is sales ops drafting, not legal advice on the customer's procurement rules.
Scorecard, risks, and questions with unassigned owners
The main deliverable is the scorecard: M E D D P I C C, each with quote, score, and gap. Then a one-paragraph narrative that does not upgrade Unknown to Weak. Then next questions, one per hole, owners unassigned unless the notes name who will answer.
Risks: single-threaded, no metric, no paper process, competition unasked. Do not soothe. Gaps: missing attendees' titles, missing current tool, missing success metric, missing legal path, missing timeline. Five bullets.
The scorecard is for your team. It is not a leave-behind. Do not write customer-facing prose that claims you "aligned on value" if the notes only have a product demo.
A worked pass: Friday is not a close date
Notes: deadline Friday, budget not approved, no customer quotes, two attendees with first names only. Metrics empty. The scorecard marks Metrics as Weak or Unknown with the Friday quote, Budget as Weak with "not approved," Economic Buyer Unknown, Paper Process Unknown, Champion Unknown. Competition unasked.
The narrative is two sentences: they have a Friday internal deadline and no approved budget. It does not say "compelling event this week" or "we have a champion in the room." Next questions: who owns budget, who signs, what is the paper path, what success metric. Owners unassigned.
If you later learn the CFO's name on a second call, paste the new notes and rerun. Do not graft the name onto last week's card from memory. Forecast should follow the Unknowns, not a completed grid.
Fill the card, then run
Paste the messy notes. If the economic buyer was not named, do not ask the model to find one.
Account, product, call date: [Context]
Discovery notes (paste): [Notes]
Approved numbers only: [Metrics]
Audience (AE, manager, SE): [Audience]
Tone: [Tone]
Legal / compliance notes: [Compliance]
Attendees and roles I actually have: [People]
Words I must not use: [Banned]
A scorecard that says Unknown on Economic Buyer is more useful than a pretty name from a website. When a run keeps the buyer blank and puts ROI under NO_DATA, share that filled card. That is the MEDDPICC adapter other AEs can trust in forecast.
