ChatGPT Prompt for Year End Review: 12 Prompts to Look Back

A ChatGPT prompt for year end review turns your own goals, calendar notes, and tallies into an honest look back and a short plan for next year. Paste what actually happened month by month, ask ChatGPT to count and quote your notes instead of guessing, and keep the plan to the hours you really have. The 12 prompts below cover a personal review, from scoring goals to a note you read on January 1.

Gather the year

1. Month by month recap

Here are my notes, calendar highlights, and photo captions for each month: [paste]. Write a two-line summary per month and mark any month with no notes as missing instead of filling it in.

2. Year in numbers

I tracked these things by month: [books, runs, savings, other]. Total each one, show the sums, and name my best and lowest month for each.

3. Wins I forgot

Read these notes [paste] and list ten things I did this year that I would not think of as wins at first, each with the month it happened.

Score your goals

4. Goal scorecard

My goals this year were [list with targets]. Mark each as done, partial, or dropped, quote the note that shows it, and give the percent of target where there is a number.

5. Why a goal stalled

My goal [goal] stalled around [month]. From these notes [paste], list what else was happening at the time and two changes that would have kept it going.

6. Life areas check

For each of these areas [health, work, money, people, learning], write one line on what the year gave it based on my notes [paste], and tell me which area got the least.

Find patterns and lessons

7. Energy patterns

Here is what gave me energy [list] and what drained it [list], plus my monthly notes [paste]. Show where drains lined up with slow months, and where energy givers lined up with good ones.

8. Three lessons

From this year's notes [paste], write three lessons, each tied to a specific thing that happened, in one sentence each.

9. Keep, stop, start

Based on my review [paste], give me three things to keep, three to stop, and three to start, each specific enough to do next week.

Plan next year

10. Three goals that fit my hours

I have [number] hours a week for personal goals next year. Suggest at most three goals from my review, each with a first-quarter milestone and weekly hours that add up to no more than my total.

11. First 30 days

For these goals [paste], plan my first 30 days of January: the first action for each, the day I do it, and what I will have to show by January 31.

12. Note to read on January 1

Write a short, warm paragraph to my future self from this review [paste]: what I did, what I learned, and the one thing to protect next year.

Run the full review in one prompt

The flagship Year End Review Prompt: Personal Recap and Next Year Plan scores each goal with quoted evidence, totals your tracked numbers, picks highlights by quarter, finds patterns between energy and progress, and builds a three-goal plan that fits your weekly hours. Its example scores 17 of 24 books and $4,200 of a $5,000 trip fund, then plans six hours a week for next year.

Keep it personal

This is a review for your own life, not a work self evaluation. Paste only what you are comfortable sharing, skip topics you do not want to plan, and edit the result until it sounds like you.
